KOBE PRACTICES

Seven months ago (221 days, to be exact), Kobe Bryant had a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left leg, resulting in blood pooling in his ankle, and his calf muscle rolling up into his leg.

He needed immediate surgery.

Today, he ate Xavier Henry alive.

He is a MACHINE.

TRACY MCGRADY RETIRES

If you haven’t seen this video, it is quite remarkable.  Down 8 points with 42 seconds left against the San Antonio Spurs, Tracy McGrady scored 13 points in 33 seconds, and the Rockets won.

This is, unfortunately and unquestionably, the high water mark for McGrady’s injury-filled career.  You can tell a lot about a guy by his NBA Career Top 10 Plays video, and McGrady’s has a bunch of one-handed dunks and an All-Star Game clip (of him dunking).

So long Tracy McGrady.

Insane.

New Sandwich?!

My roommate and I went to Sowa yesterday where a bunch of Boston food trucks gather every Sunday and I was finally able to try Roxy’s. If you don’t know, Roxy’s is a food truck that serves grilled cheeses. They have 4 different sandwiches, as well as homemade fries and several freshly made drinks. I got their Green Muenster which had muenster cheese, homemade guacamole, and bacon. It was pretty delicious.

We continued to walk around after eating and there were several food trucks that served “new-age” Chinese food. So this got me thinking, what about a Chinese inspired grilled cheese? I know, cheese + Chinese cuisine does not really mix but hear me out:

  • lightly salted/seasoned chicken (either grilled or steamed, leaning towards steamed)

  • ginger + green onion sauce (the one that goes great with chicken that’s literally just ginger, green onion, and oil)

  • some sort of cheese (my roommate suggested sharp cheddar but I really have no idea. I don’t know about you but I can’t really tell the difference between cheeses, at least not off the top of my head)

I’m really excited to try this out but sadly will probably not get a chance to until after classes are over and I get back to Boston after going home for a week. But yea, if you guys have any suggestions, like a different cheese that I should try or if you just want to call me idiot for trying this, LET ME KNOW!

:)

I haven’t posted in a REALLY long time but just wanted to talk about the start of this summer.

This has been a pretty awesome start. Even the somewhat lame class I’m in isn’t too bad. There’s just been a lot pros about this summer and not too many cons. I hope this continues. It feels great and I’m just trying to enjoy every bit of it. Here’s to the rest of the summer. Cheers!

Chicken or the Egg, Animation About a Pig Who Must Choose Between Love & Gluttony

Egg-cellent

Luckily, I don’t think any one’s actually had this exact dilemma. She probably gave up bacon for the guy!

You’ll see me mention Queens Comfort quite a lot, and that’s partially because the menu evolves more than any other I know… sometimes daily.  The team is constantly playing with new recipes, seasonal ingredients, and fresh inspiration.  Living up to the restaurant’s name, two of the newest dishes take comfort foods to a whole new level.  The Atomic Fire Balls are cayenne-breaded mac and cheese balls drizzled with sriracha and served with ranch dressing.  And the Zzzz Dawg was simply pHeNoMeNaL… a frankfurter wrapped in bacon, blanketed with cheddar sauce, stacked with shoe string fried onions, and drizzled with BBQ.  Queens Comfort * 40-09 30th Ave * (718) 728-2350

Aughhhh. Such a dumb idea. Brb while I try to find something in my kitchen that can be a substitute…

The Hall of Justice in Ozone Park is yet another defunct Comic Shop in Queens. There are very few left.  Silver Age in Astoria, Comic Den in Kew Gardens (last legs), Comic Book Heaven in Sunnyside (last legs), Royal Collectibles in Forest Hills.  There’s Montasy in Forest Hills too and the completely wiling Duel Zone underneath the Hong Kong Supermarket in Flushing — but Duel Zone is mostly an ultra-insane super-serious Magic Card and Yu-Gi-Oh tournament spot.

Always fun to discover new changes at DiWine… like this lobster and leek pizza… a brick oven pie accented with sherry cream sauce, asparagus, corn, tomatoes, and slices of manchego cheese.  I also enjoy that all wines are $9 a glass or $32 a bottle—allowing you to focus on the wine selection without debating which price to choose.  DiWine * 41-15  31st Ave, Astoria * (718) 777-1355 * www.diwineonline.com

Jeezus. Why is everything in Astoria?

Terraza is one of the coolest bars in Queens or anywhere else in NYC. This is last night with the Alex Brown Quartet, playing on the suspended platform above the bar. Just about every night of the week has something awesome going on, from Latin jazz or folk to readings of a sort. You’ll dig.

No need to rub your eyes… yes, that’s a hot dog topped with mac & cheese with toasted bread crumbs on a grilled New England style bun.  They also come wrapped in bacon, topped with guacamole, chili, or even a fried egg.  Pretty cool hot dog menu at Bud’s Ale House.   34-02 Steinway, Astoria | www.budsalehouse.com

Authentic Mexican food doesn’t get much better than this rather hidden gem… Athens Grill.  Don’t be fooled by the name and walk past like so many erroneously do.  The owners may be Greek, but it’s definitely a Mexican run and patronized restaurant that serves killer tortas & cemitas (try the al pastor), huaraches, tamales ($1.50) and even tops their tacos with grilled nopales (cactus).  Wash it back with a MexiCoke, Jaritos, or tequila.  They even deliver, open daily ‘til the wee hours of the night (usually 4AM). Self reminder to try this

Thanks Viv. This is a pretty bomb tumblr account. Self-reminders all over the place…

I understand that there are still links that don’t work and movies that haven’t been listed yet. Feel free to message me [here] if you have any questions or requests.
Note: Most of the Non-Disney films links don’t work.

Links will probably not work when I come back to this but you never know…
